
UTSA student volunteers
Valero Volunteer University wraps up second successful year

(July 27, 2009)--Valero Volunteer University, a partnership in service involving UTSA student volunteers and Valero Energy employees, recently wrapped up a second successful year. One hundred twenty-three UTSA students participated this year and contributed a total 1,040 hours of volunteer work for a variety of events and causes, alongside Valero employees. Two students and one organization were awarded for their service.
The winners are:
- Rachel Delucia -- $1,200 scholarship
- Casandra Minjarez -- $800 scholarship
- VOICES (student organization) -- $500 toward a future project
"We're thrilled and fortunate to have such a dedicated group of UTSA volunteers giving back to their community," said Gus Villarreal, Valero volunteer program coordinator and UTSA alumnus. "UTSA students are definitely committed to academic excellence and civic-mindedness."
