(Aug. 20, 2009)--As the kickoff for UTSA Roadrunner Days, students will find fun, food and friends, and experience what the University Center has to offer at "Rowdy Land: Dive into the UC 2009" from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 23 on the Main Campus. The event kicks off UTSA Roadrunner Days.
University Center-based partners, offices and services will collaborate to transform the center into a theme park complete with food, entertainment and carnival games.
"We've worked with all of our UC-based partners to transform the UC into a theme park with different themed areas," said Tabitha Byrne, assistant director for UC programs. "There will be tons of ways for students to learn what is here for them at the UC and have a good time doing it."
The first floor of the UC near the bookstore will be a whimsical, Seuss-inspired area, which perfectly transitions to the candy-laden Sweet Street area upstairs near the University Career Center. The food court and ski lodge become Rockin' Rowdy's, while the Paseo is changed into a seaside boardwalk carnival. The newest addition to the University Center becomes The Old Frontier.
The fun will begins when students pick up a theme park map at the Paseo information booth and use it to navigate through the UC to experience various games, contests or activities ranging from miniature golf to food to karaoke. Students can receive a prize by having their maps marked at each activity and then turning it in at the information booth.
The UTSA University Center is at the heart of student life and includes a wide range of services that students use every day including Frost Bank, Campus Technology Store, bookstore, food court, and student involvement and support offices. New this fall, the UTSA community will enjoy a Burger King restaurant, Rios hair salon, and a document and mail services store.
