(Oct. 23, 2009)--The UTSA Department of Art and Art History will host the exhibit, "Broken Brushes: German Art from the Kaiser to Hitler," through Nov. 25 at the UTSA Arts Building Gallery on the Main Campus. The exhibition documents German art history from 1872 to 1945 and includes works on paper from this significant period of artistic and cultural history. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Artists in the exhibit include Kathe Kollwitz, Max Beckman, Lionel Feininger, Otto Dix, Edward Munch, Emil Nolde, George Grosz and many others. Works include portraits, political commentary, and abstract and expressionist experimentation including works by members of the influential avant-garde groups Die Brucke (The Bridge) and Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider). The UTSA exhibit was curated by Gus Kopriva.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday; 1-4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday; and by appointment.

Directions: The UTSA Arts Building Gallery is on the Main Campus. From Interstate 10W, take exit 557 to UTSA Boulevard (heading west). At the second traffic light, turn right onto James Bauerle Boulevard. Turn left onto O'Neil Ford Avenue and make an immediate right into lot 8. The Arts Building is on the right at the top of the walkway to the center of campus.
