(Oct. 9, 2009)--The UTSA Graduate School announces the opening of the first graduate student-only study room at the UTSA Main Campus. The study room is in John Peace Library Room 3.01.56 with a sign designating it "Graduate Study Area."

The room is available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved for private use. The new study space comes with a large white-board, six 30-inch by 48-inch tables and 20 chairs. Two tables with six chairs each are in the center of the room as an excellent working space for group projects.

"Thank you for the efforts in securing a study room for graduate students at the Main Campus," said Sarah Compton, UTSA master's student in teaching English as a second language. "This is just another example of UTSA's commitment to understand and meet the needs of students."

"We are excited to make this new study space a reality," said Krisellen Maloney, UTSA dean of libraries. "This is just the beginning of improved library services and resources for our students."

The graduate study area is available during regular Main Campus library hours:

  • Monday-Thursday, open 24 hours
  • Friday, closes at 9 p.m.
  • Saturday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
  • Sunday, opens at 1 p.m.

In order to track the usage of the room, students should sign in and out. Additionally, if a student needs to use a computer or the Internet for research while utilizing the study room, the UTSA Libraries and the Graduate School offer these tips:

  • Bring a personal laptop with an internal or external wireless card to utilize the Air Rowdy free Wi-Fi service.
  • Check out a laptop at the front counter on the library second floor (based on availability).
  • Utilize one of the many common computer areas on the second floor of the library (based on availability)
