(Oct. 20, 2009)--The UTSA Department of English will host Paola Zaccaria, professor of American literature at the University of Bari in Italy, who will discuss her documentary film, "ALTAR: Cruzando Fronteras, Building Bridges." Following her presentation, the film will be screened. The event is 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21 in Humanities and Social Sciences Building Room 3.04.22 on the UTSA Main Campus.

Zaccaria's documentary is a visual portrait of the late Gloria Anzaldua, Chicana activist, scholar, poet, writer and artist. The film discusses how Anzaldua inspired artwork and discussions about the borderlands.

"ALTAR: Cruzando Fronteras, Building Bridges" looks at Anzaldua's legacy and takes shape in the texture of women's border art and in the cultural and political centers committed to creating bridges across differences.

The documentary has been screened in Paris, Germany, Italy and New York City.
