UTSA alumnus Irv Downing to head UT Brownsville institutional advancement
(June 18, 2012) -- UTSA alumnus Irv Downing, vice president for economic development at the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College, added a new role to his responsibilities this month, and he now will be vice president for economic development and institutional advancement. The new dual appointment is over divisions that will remain separate.
Downing earned a UTSA master's degree in urban environmental studies. He has a bachelor's degree in history from the State University of New York, College at Fredonia.
He began the new position this month, and in the new role will oversee the daily activities of Institutional Advancement's University Relations, News and Information, Creative Services, Web Communications and Alumni Association.
Downing will continue to oversee Economic Development's work at the International Technology, Education and Commerce Center, The Arts Center and the Fort Brown Center.
From 1987 to 2009, Downing was commercial division manager and president of the Rio Grande Valley region of JPMorgan Chase Bank.
