UTSA hosts classical guitarist Daniel Lippel Sept. 29 at Recital Hall
(Sept. 26, 2014) -- The UTSA Department of Music will present classical guitarist Daniel Lippel for a concert performance at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 29 in the UTSA Recital Hall on the Main Campus. Admission is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature guitar works that range from original compositions to electro-acoustic work. Selected pieces include recently composed music for the guitar, 20th century classics and a new musical offering by Ethan Wickman, UTSA assistant professor of music composition and theory.
Described as an 'exciting solo artist' by the New York Times, Lippel has enjoyed a diverse career that includes solo performances, chamber music concerts and innovative commissioning and recording projects.
Since 2005, Lippel has been the principal guitarist with the critically acclaimed International Contemporary Ensemble and as a guitarist with the group Flexible Music since 2004. Lippel also is the director and co-founder of New Focus Recordings.
As a chamber musician, Lippel has performed throughout Asia, Europe, South America and the United States and has served as a guest performer with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, New York New Music Ensemble and many others.
He has recorded with several music companies including Kairos, Bridge, Albany, Capstone and Starkland Records. He has performed at the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan and the Sydney Festival in Australia.
Lippel received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Manhattan School of Music, under the guidance of David Starobin, an American classical guitarist, record producer, composer, writer and filmmaker.
