UTSA hosts Voto Latino San Antonio Power Summit at UTSA
(Sept. 16, 2014) -- Voto Latino held the third stop of its four-city Power Summit tour at the UTSA Downtown Campus and Institute for Texan Cultures, respectively, on Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13.
The San Antonio Power Summit Conference, sponsored by Southwest Airlines, Google, Sprint and the MacArthur Foundation, brought together more than 300 Latino millennial youths for a weekend of workshops, panel discussions and training sessions with community activists, grassroots organizers, elected officials, celebrities and business leaders.
The workshops covered topics such as leadership, advocacy, and media and technology and featured several high-profile speakers, including U.S. Rep. Joaquín Castro, state Sen. Leticia Van De Putte (D-San Antonio), Voto Latino President and MSNBC Contributor María Teresa Kumar and chair of the Voto Latino Artist Coalition and actor Wilmer Valderrama
Voto Latino is a nonpartisan advocacy organization designed to empower Latino millennial youth by giving them the opportunity to network and learn from industry experts and leaders in advocacy, leadership and media and technology. It is dedicated to bringing new and diverse voices together by engaging youth, media, technology and celebrities to promote positive change. It will host its final Power Summit in San Jose, Calif., Oct. 17-18.
