VPR, Faculty Center offer NSF grant writing workshops Sept. 16
(Sept. 12, 2014) -- UTSA faculty are invited to learn more about National Science Foundation (NSF) grant writing best practices at a pair of workshops featuring NSF program director Alexis Lewis, Ph.D.
- The workshops will be held on Sept. 16 in the Faculty Center Assembly Room on the UTSA Main Campus.
Alexis Lewis is a program director for the Materials Engineering and Processing (MEP) program in the Division of Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation at the National Science Foundation in Arlington, Va. In addition to the MEP program, she serves as a representative for the Engineering Division of Designing Materials to Revolutionize and Engineer our Future (DMREF), the National Science Foundation's response to the Materials Genome Initiative. Prior to joining the NSF, Lewis was a member of the technical staff at the US. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. for 11 years. Her program portfolio focuses on structural and multifunctional materials and their processing, properties, structure and performance.
Her first workshop, titled "NSF Grant Writing for Engineering Disciplines", will focus on NSF grant writing guidelines and how they specifically relate to engineering disciplines. The following workshop, "NSF Early Career Awards Grant Writing", will support junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholar through the integration of outstanding research and education. The seminar will provide an opportunity for UTSA faculty to receive relevant information on this NSF program, with a specific focus on how to develop a successful application.
