Four UTSA debaters place at University of Nevada at Las Vegas tournament
(Oct. 29, 2014) -- The UTSA debate team recently traveled to Las Vegas to compete at their third seasonal tournament. The tournament hosted by the University of Nevada at Las Vegas consisted of more than 90 teams representing 25 universities from across the country. UTSA finished with a winning record.
The freshman team of Karmenly Alegria and Bianca Salazar advanced to the semifinals of the Junior Division, winning third place. Alegria also was ranked ninth among the top debaters, earning her second individual speaker award of the season. In the Championship Division, debaters Emma Pabst and Jesse Nation also advanced to the elimination rounds, receiving sixth place.
The next tournament for the Roadrunners will be at the prestigious Harvard Debate Invitational in Cambridge, Mass. Pabst and Nation will compete against the top teams in the nation, accompanied by assistant coaches Philip DiPiazza and Kristiana Baez.
