UTSA Student Leadership Center Roadrunner of the Month: Molly Ballard
(Oct. 16, 2014) -- The UTSA Student Leadership Center announces Molly Ballard as Roadrunner of the Month. Ballard was nominated by Ashley Spain-Martinez, program coordinator for orientation and family programs.
Ballard is from Columbus, Texas, where she graduated from Columbus High School in 2012. She is a junior studying communication with a concentration in public relations. After completing her degree, she hopes to pursue a master's degree, travel the world and give back to her family for helping her become the young woman she is today.
As a student coordinator in the Office of Orientation and Family Programs, Ballard has demonstrated a stellar example of what it means to be a leader at UTSA. Last summer, she worked diligently assisting with coordinating efforts for the summer orientation programs.
"Her work ethic, positive attitude and determination helped lead her peers to finish out the summer strong and complete all the orientation sessions successfully," said Spain-Martinez. "Molly's positive attitude and hard work ethic made her a pleasure to work with throughout the summer."
In August, Ballard earned the coveted title of Director's Choice at the Orientation and Family Programs end-of-the-year banquet. The award goes to a student coordinator for their outstanding contributions to Orientation and Family Programs by demonstrating exceptional leadership, professionalism and an outstanding work ethic. Ballard is known for seeking out opportunities to learn and grow as a young professional.
Ballard loves UTSA and everything about it, and for the last two summers, she has thoroughly enjoyed serving as an orientation leader and a student coordinator for Orientation and Family Programs. She attributes her skills and professional development to the experiences and opportunities she had been afforded as a UTSA Roadrunner.
When asked how she defines leadership, Ballard responded: "Leadership is being a role model to others by taking the time to lead someone in the right direction, inspire them and motivate them to become the person they wish to be."
The Roadrunner of the Month Dean of Students Outstanding Leadership Award is sponsored by the Student Leadership Center to recognize outstanding student leadership contributions to the UTSA community.
