(Oct. 29, 2014) -- Patricia Sánchez, associate professor in the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies, was awarded $2,000 from DOCUmation for her academic achievements. She received the award from Scott Woolfolk, DOCUmation chief executive officer, at a special on-field presentation during The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) versus The University of Texas at El Paso football game on Saturday, Oct. 25.

Faculty, staff, and students from across the university were nominated for the award. Sánchez, who was nominated by Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies Department Chair Belinda Bustos Flores, was one of six people chosen by DOCUmation to receive an award.

"It is a great feeling to be recognized," said Sánchez. "Only six awardees were selected this fall, so it is a big honor to be a part of this small group."

Sánchez served on the university's Athletic Council for two years and has regularly attended UTSA's football games over the last four seasons. Each game, she said, she sports her custom-made "Puro Roadrunner" t-shirt.

"I think that because the award takes place during a home Roadrunner game, in front of a large, local crowd, it helps the San Antonio community learn a little bit more about the people who work at UTSA," said Sánchez. "I hope that a local high school student sees my story on the jumbotron and thinks, 'Hey I want to go to UTSA,' or, 'I want to be a professor like that lady one day.'"

DOCUmation, a corporate sponsor of UTSA athletics, is a San Antonio-based company that offers businesses technology solutions in addition to printing, scanning, and imaging services.
