UTSA hosts Take Back the Night to raise awareness of domestic violence
(Oct. 21, 2014) -- The UTSA Women's Studies Institute and the Women’s Resource Center will host Take Back the Night, an annual event that focuses on eliminating sexual and domestic violence. Free and open to the public, the event will be from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 23 at Sombrilla Plaza on the UTSA Main Campus.
A poster-making session will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a march around campus. There will be poetry and testimonial readings from 7 to 9 p.m. Refreshments and glow sticks will be provided.
The event is part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which raises awareness and empowers survivors while educating allies. Take Back the Night is one of many events sponsored by the Women’s Studies Institute throughout the year.
The event provides a safe space for survivors and allies to express themselves in order to build a safer campus and community.
