UTSA senior Julie Diaz receives Outstanding Latino-Latina Student Leadership Award
(Nov. 11, 2014) -- Julie Diaz, a senior communication major, has received the 2014-2015 Outstanding Latino/Latina Student Leadership Award. Diaz was selected from 26 nominees.
Presented each year at the Latino Heritage Banquet, the award is given to a student who has demonstrated both leadership and service to the UTSA and greater San Antonio communities. Other criteria include being a currently enrolled UTSA student with a minimum 3.0 G.P.A.
Diaz received a record nine nominations from faculty, staff and peers. She has been named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and is a mentor with the Black Student Union Mentor Program, a McNair Scholar and holds leadership roles with the Multicultural Greek Council and Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc.
Diaz is a NASPA Undergraduate Fellow and serves on the Diplomás Collegiate Leadership Council. Additionally, she has engaged in more than 200 hours of service to the community over the last two years.
"I am truly blessed to be a Roadrunner," said Diaz. "I am proud of the woman I am becoming because I have no doubt that one day I will make an impact in my community. I am a proud Mexican American who values the culture and heritage of my family. Most importantly, I look up to my ancestors for their struggles to become successful in this country."
