UTSA Department of Music presents 'Winterlude' holiday-themed concerts Dec. 3-5
(Nov. 20, 2014) -- The UTSA Department of Music starts the holiday season with "Winterlude," a series of musical concerts featuring UTSA bands and choral and student instrumental ensembles. The three concerts will be at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3-5 on the UTSA Main Campus.
UTSA music faculty members Ron Ellis, John Zarco, Eugene Dowdy, John Silantien and Gary Mabry will conduct the groups.
On Wednesday, Dec. 3, in the H-E-B University Center ballrooms, the UTSA Spirit of San Antonio (SOSA) Marching Band will perform halftime musical compositions from the 2014 Roadrunners football season. The Colorguard and Pom-Pom Squad performers will accompany the SOSA band.
Parking for the Dec. 3 performance will be available in the Ximenez Avenue Garage off UTSA Boulevard and Edward Ximenes Boulevard.
On Thursday, Dec. 4, in the Arts Building Recital Hall (2.03.02), the University Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensembles and instrumental ensembles will perform a varied repertoire of holiday music representing different cultures including "A Celebration of Hanukkah," "Feliz Navidad," "A Medieval Christmas" and "Children and Gentlemen." The evening will conclude with a massed band performance of Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride."
The "Winterlude" concert series concludes in the Recital Hall on Friday, Dec. 5 with the UTSA Orchestra and combined choirs performing Igor Stravinsky's "Symphony of Psalms" and Rutter's "Gloria."
For the Dec. 4 and Dec. 5 performances, free parking and shuttle service to the Arts Building Recital Hall will be available at the East Campus parking lot, adjacent to Valero Way and UTSA Boulevard.
