UTSA named a top school by Military Advanced Education college guide
(Dec. 4, 2014) -- The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) has been designated a top school in the Military Advanced Education 2015 MAE Guide to Colleges & Universities, which measures best practices in military and veteran education. UTSA was ranked as a top school based on its military culture, financial aid, flexibility, on-campus support and online support services.
The MAE guide provides information on military-supportive policies at more than 600 institutions including private, public, for-profit, not-for-profit, two-year and four-year colleges. It enables prospective students to quickly target schools that follow best practices in military education and then put these in context with other academic or career considerations.
"We believe the guide serves as an invaluable tool for both education services officers and transition officers when advising servicemembers about their educational opportunities," said Kelly Fodel, MAE editor. "We used strict criteria to individually evaluate the submissions of respondents, and we had a record number of schools participating this year."
The 2015 MAE Guide to Colleges & Universities was published in the December issue of Military Advanced Education and in a searchable online database.
"Once again, UTSA has been recognized for the outstanding services and programs it provides to our military family," said retired Col. Lisa Firmin, UTSA associate provost for diversity and recruitment. "UTSA has become a first choice for veterans and military members because it offers top-tier educational opportunities and a support structure dedicated to their success."
Last month, UTSA was recognized in the Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges 2015 rankings. The university was also recently designated as one of the nation's top Military Friendly Schools, for the fifth consecutive year, by G.I. Jobs magazine.
Approximately 10 percent of UTSA's enrollment, nearly 3,000 students, are military veterans, active-duty military or military dependents. The university provides numerous services and programs for its military community including the Veterans Certification Office, the VetSuccess on Campus program (VSOC), which provides two full-time experienced vocational counselors from the Department of Veterans Affairs; the Student Veterans Association (SVA) and the Veteran Services Advisory Committee (VSAC).
