(Jan. 7, 2015) -- Charles Glenn Nail, a staff member in the UTSA Police Department, died Dec. 26 after a battle with cancer.

He began in the police department as a security guard in 2002 and became an administrative associate II, managing the department fleet and quartermaster duties.  He is best known for his handiwork around the department, crafting projects and often repairing department vehicles.

A valued member of the police department and the university community, he was awarded a 2008 Life Saving Award and the Vice President for Business Affairs 2014 Celebrating Excellence Award. Nail also was recognized as a UTSA Police Department Employee of the Semester and Employee of the Year.

He is survived by his wife Gloria Nail, stepchildren UTSA Police employee April Marie Saenz and Mark Andrew Saenz, and seven grandchildren, Sammy, Teddy, Brandon, Markie, Isaiah, Elijah and Rayden.

He is preceded in death by his father, Billy F. Nail, and is survived by his mother, Patsy Markert of Corpus Christi, and siblings Shari, Bryan, Brenda, Bonnie, Cindy, Jeff, Rene and Toni, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 10 at The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 6011 Grissom Rd., San Antonio, Texas, 78238. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection or Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, 12525 Potranco Rd., San Antonio, Texas, 78253.
