Former UTSA chief legal officer Elizabeth Mitchell dies Dec. 25
(Jan. 9, 2015) -- UTSA lost a member of its family over the winter break. Elizabeth T. Mitchell, former UTSA chief legal officer, died Dec. 25.
Mitchell was a true patriot with a career dedicated to military and government service. She joined UTSA in 1996 as chief legal officer, and her hard work over the next 15 years created the university's Office of Legal Affairs and Equal Opportunity Services.
Her knowledge, integrity and objectivity made her an invaluable resource to the university administration and the university as a whole. Mitchell had an illustrious career, and she helped many along the way. Her service to UTSA will not be forgotten.
Beyond her career, her life was filled with art, poetry, music and gardening. Although many were not aware of it, she also was an accomplished artist and craftsperson, who enjoyed sharing her talents with family and friends.
But, her true love was her family, and she especially enjoyed her two grandchildren. Mitchell is survived by her three siblings and their spouses, numerous nephews and nieces, and by her beloved son, his wife and their two children.
Mitchell was interred with full military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Her family requests that memorial donations be made to the ASPCA and the Wounded Warrior Project.
