(Jan. 14, 2015) -- UTSA Vice President for Business Affairs Kerry Kennedy will retire this week after more than 25 years of service in public higher education including 10 years leading UTSA's business affairs division.

Kennedy joined UTSA in August 2004, leading a division that includes more than 600 employees and is responsible for budgeting and financial forecasting, human resources, facilities and capital improvement projects, campus police operations and emergency preparedness, environmental health and safety, purchasing and auxiliary services, and parking and transportation operations.

Kennedy has overseen significant capital growth at UTSA as the university has evolved to an emerging Tier One research institution. Since 2004, Kennedy's teams have completed more than $600 million in capital construction, more than doubling the size of the university to more than 5 million gross square feet.

During his tenure, Kennedy also implemented new programs to enhance UTSA Police Department recruiting and retention and created the Office of Business Continuity and Emergency Management.

Before joining UTSA, from 1990 to 2003, Kennedy worked at the UT System, first as assistant vice chancellor and controller and then as executive vice chancellor for business affairs.

Kennedy has been a mentor and advocate for new and experienced UT System employees through various leadership and training programs at UTSA and the UT System. Additionally, he was integral to establishing and growing First Light Christian Fellowship, UTSA's registered organization for Christian faculty and staff. In 2013, the organization published its first book, "Spiritual Journeys of Christian Faculty and Staff," an anthology of Christian testimonials.

"Kerry has always been passionate about seeing UTSA become a Tier One institution, and as vice president of business affairs, he has worked tirelessly to help us realize that vision," said UTSA President Ricardo Romo. "Kerry's commitment to serving the university community will have a lasting impact on UTSA and we wish him the very best on his well-deserved retirement."

>> The university community is invited to attend a reception for Kennedy at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 15 in the H-E-B University Center Ballroom (1.106).
