UTSA volunteer fair pairs students with volunteer organizations
(Feb. 10, 2015) -- UTSA students had the opportunity to meet with more than 50 local government, non-profit agencies and other volunteer-focused organizations at the recent UTSA Spring Volunteer Fair.
Hosted by the UTSA Student Center for Community Engagement and Inclusion, the fair is an opportunity for UTSA students to speak with service-oriented agencies to learn more about their missions, services and volunteer opportunities.
"My organization was able to capture some great [volunteer] leads from [UTSA’s] students and organizations," said Debi Silva, volunteer coordinator for the Cibolo Nature Center and Farm. Her group handed out brochures and flyers to passing UTSA students. According to Silva, the annual Volunteer Fair helps her bring in passionate volunteers to assist in her organization’s mission.
"We could not continue our mission of education the community on preservation and conservation without volunteers," added Silva. "They are our life-line."
For students who were unable to attend the fair, the UTSA Volunteer Service Office (H-E-B University Center 1.216) can assist them in finding one-time or ongoing volunteer opportunities in the San Antonio area. ”
Students are also asked to save the date for the annual UTSA Day of Service: United to Serve event on Saturday, April 11. During the event, UTSA students will partner with San Antonio service and community agencies to mobilize thousands of volunteers in the community. It is a day to encourage UTSA students, faculty and staff to mobilize and make a difference.
