Apply now for UTSA Institute for Law and Public Affairs summer academy
(March 6, 2015) -- The UTSA Institute for Law and Public Affairs (ILPA) is accepting applications for its UTSA Summer Law School Preparation Academy (SLSPA), a top-tier pre-law program designed to increase the number of students who successfully gain admission to and excel in quality law schools. Applications are due by April 1.
The SLSPA curriculum prepares students for law school and the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) by emphasizing analytical thinking, critical reading and quality writing skills. SLSPA students receive 12 hours of undergraduate credit, which can transfer to most accredited universities. The program also features a weekly series of speakers including law school professors, admissions directors and practitioners.
Additionally, students who participate in the UTSA Summer Law School Preparation Academy will:
- Receive concentrated LSAT preparation and intensive skills development
- Attend mock law classes by law school professors from Texas and across the country
- Learn how to build a successful law school application, write a strong personal statement, apply for scholarships and secure financial aid
- Receive pre-law advising
The academy is offered in two five-week phases. Each includes two three-credit courses. Phase I starts May 26 and Phase II starts July 2. Students can apply for Phase I as sophomores and attend the academy during the summer between their sophomore and junior years.
Students enroll in Phase II during the summer after their junior year and before their senior year. Students also can take the two phases in one summer. Those who successfully complete the SLSPA receive a UTSA Certificate in Legal Reasoning. Admittance is on a competitive basis.
