National Call to Action Day raises awareness of sexual assault prevention
(April 6, 2015) – The UTSA Inter Fraternity Council (IFC) will host UTSA Call to Action Day, an awareness event scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7 at the UTSA Main Campus. The event aims to reduce sexual violence through education.
UTSA's awareness event will include tables set up by several student organizations and UTSA departments. Attendees will be asked to make the It's On Us Pledge, a personal commitment to keep women and men safe from sexual violence.
In the evening, the UTSA Office of Equal Opportunity Services will host a showing of Red Blooded Men at 6 p.m. in the University Center Retama Auditorium on the UTSA Main Campus. Red Blooded Men is a documentary created by student filmmakers that explores multiple aspects of college life from a male perspective.
Through various interviews, from Northern Illinois University to the University of Iowa and other schools across the country, the filmmakers aim to enlighten audiences about notions of masculinity and femininity and create awareness of the increasing trend of sexual assault on campuses across America. A panel discussion will follow the film's screening.
The month of April is designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Across the country, governments, schools and other organizations will raise public awareness of sexual violence by focusing on the importance of prevention and by empowering survivors of sexual violence to speak out, connect to resources and report.
