UTSA alumni and staff harmonize through Helotes Area Community Band
(April 6, 2015) -- At first glance, you might not think a community concert band based in Helotes would be in any way connected to UTSA. However, 11 of the Helotes Area Community Band's 60 volunteer musicians are UTSA alumni and staff members.
Established in 2009, the Helotes Area Community Band is the official band of the City of Helotes. The band performs several times each year throughout Helotes and San Antonio.
Its annual spring concert, A Hill Country Music Jubilee, will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 12 at the John Marshall High School Auditorium, 8000 Lobo Lane, San Antonio, Texas, 78240 (near the intersection of Eckhert and Bandera Roads). The Band will perform pieces by Rossini, De Meiji, Ticheli, Hazo, Jager, Chambers and others. The concert is free and open to the public.
