Chancellor McRaven visits UTSA campus on Friday

(April 10, 2015) – University of Texas System Chancellor William McRaven made his first official visit to the UTSA campus on Friday, April 10.

Chancellor McRaven met with UTSA President Ricardo Romo and other campus leaders to get an overview of the university and its history, and discuss strategic initiatives to strengthen academic excellence and research at UTSA.

President Romo briefed the chancellor on UTSA 2020 Blueprint, a new strategic plan that will guide the university's growth and development over the next five years, UTSA's community engagement programs, initiatives for student success, the progress of the university's capital campaign and its legislative priorities.

The chancellor also met with the Faculty Senate Executive Committee, Staff Council committee chairs, and had lunch with a group of Student Government Association leaders. He also toured the Applied Engineering and Technology Building; Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building; Peter T. Flawn Building and the John Peace Library.

McRaven was accompanied by Pedro Reyes, UT Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Wanda Mercer, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs; and Jana Pankratz, Deputy to the Chancellor.

McRaven, who recently retired as a four-star admiral after 37 years as a Navy SEAL, became Chancellor of the UT System in January.
