(April 27, 2015) – UTSA President Ricardo Romo will receive the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Region III President's Award for 2015.
NASPA is the leading association for the advancement, health and sustainability of the student affairs profession. The association provides professional development, advocacy and research for 13,000 members in all 50 states, 25 countries and eight U.S. territories.
NASPA is recognizing President Romo for advancing the quality of student life at UTSA through his continuing support of Student Affairs staff and programs.
"This prestigious award signifies that your fellow student affairs colleagues value the contributions you are making in the field," Lorie Kittendorf and Jody Conway, co-chairs of NASPA Region III Nominations and Awards, said in a letter to President Romo. "It also exemplifies your hard work within the profession, your institution and NASPA Region III."
President Romo was nominated for the award by Kevin Price, UTSA associate vice president and dean of students, with supporting letters from Sam Gonzales, UTSA vice president for student affairs, present and former student body presidents, UTSA NASPA undergraduate fellows, members of the Student Affairs staff team and others.
Price noted that under President Romo's leadership, Student Affairs has grown to 19 departments with almost 500 full-time employees.
"The size and breadth of our division reflects the trust and confidence Dr. Romo holds for Student Affairs," Price said. "During his more than 15 years as UTSA President, Dr. Romo has always sought input from Student Affairs staff because he places a high priority on providing those enrolled at our institution a superior student experience. We have always felt valued, heard and supported."
