UTSA McNair Scholars hosts Graduate School Bootcamp May 19-20
(May 15, 2015) -- The UTSA McNair Scholars Program will host its 2nd Annual Graduate School Bootcamp, featuring international speaker and author Donald Asher, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 19-20 in the Main Building (MB 0.106) on the UTSA Main Campus.
The intensive two-day workshop will focus on strategies to help students gain admission to highly competitive graduate programs.
An acclaimed author specializing in professional development and higher education, Asher has written 12 books available in English, Chinese, Korean, and Portuguese. He is among the nation’s foremost authorities on the graduate admissions process.
Asher's lecture topics include:
- the benefits of graduate education
- challenges to pursuing a graduate degree
- how to properly use on-line resources to search graduate programs
- how to identify and contact faculty in programs of interest
- how to stand out in the application process
- how to craft the personal statement
- the GRE and more…
This year’s program will feature UTSA’s Graduate School along with representatives from Vanderbilt University, Stanford University and University of Chicago.
TRiO program members from Michigan State University, Wichita State University and University of Las Vegas will also be in attendance.
Free on-site registration, open to current UTSA students with a valid UTSA ID, will be available from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19 in the UTSA Welcome Center located in the Bauerle Garage (BRG 0.316).
The UTSA McNair Scholars Program, part of the federal TRiO Programs, is designed to prepare students from underrepresented segments of society for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities.
