San Antonio mayoral run-off debate to be held at UTSA

(May 27, 2015) – The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), the San Antonio Express-News and Time Warner Cable News San Antonio will present a run-off debate between San Antonio mayoral candidates Ivy Taylor and Leticia Van de Putte on Thursday, May 28 at the UTSA Downtown Campus.

The debate will be held in the Buena Vista Theater from 7 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. While the debate is free and open to the public, all tickets to the event have been distributed. An overflow room has been set up adjacent to the theater for those who wish to follow the debate online.

Free parking will be available in unreserved spots in Lot D-3 (beneath IH-35) off N. Pecos La Trinidad.

The forum will be moderated by Dr. Francine Romero, associate dean of the College of Public Policy at UTSA and panelists Gilbert Garcia, columnist for the San Antonio Express-News and Annette Garcia, reporter for Time Warner Cable News San Antonio.

The event will be carried live on Time Warner Cable News San Antonio, seen on channels 14 and 200 on Time Warner Cable. The forum will be re-aired on Time Warner Cable News San Antonio at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 31; 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 3; 8 p.m. Sunday, June 7; 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 9; and 8 p.m. Friday, June 12. The debate also will be available on twcnews.com.

During the forum, the candidates will be asked to respond to a series of panelist questions on key topics of interest including police and firefighter compensation, gentrification, development, and neighborhood preservation, transportation, and other issues. They will then be given the opportunity to ask questions of each other and debate those topics, followed by questions from the audience and television viewers.

The run-off election will be held June 13, 2015.
