(July 3, 2015) -- Cristina Dominguez, UTSA Volunteer Services program coordinator, recently received the 2015 Volunteer Administrator of the Year Award from the San Antonio Volunteer Administrators (SAVA) at its annual business meeting and luncheon.

Dominguez has been instrumental in connecting UTSA students, faculty and staff with opportunities to serve the San Antonio community. She works closely with volunteer coordinators from hundreds of local non-profits to ensure UTSA students have quality experiences that meet the organizations critical needs.

Over the past four years, Dominguez has served in the area of Volunteer Services for the UTSA Student Center for Community Engagement and Inclusion. In her position, Dominguez has made a significant impact in student programming and engagement. She previously served as a graduate assistant.

As staff advisor for the Volunteer Organization Involving Community Education and Service (VOICES) student group, Dominguez carefully guides the more than 300 members in the organization. Each academic year, VOICES members provide thousands of hours of community service. Dominguez and the student leaders organize several major community service events annually, including Roadrunners Give Back, UTSA Extreme Makeover and United to Serve.

Dominguez’s nomination was submitted by her past supervisor Yvonne Pena, former associate dean of students and director of the Student Center for Community Engagement and Inclusion; Brian Halderman, director of the Center for Civic Engagement; and Courtney Hunter, past president of VOICES.

“Cristina goes above and beyond to ensure UTSA students have enriching community service experiences that enhance their learning and interest in community engagement. She also works hard to have sustaining and beneficial relationships with our community partners,” said Halderman. "I am delighted that her efforts have been recognized by her SAVA colleagues.”
