Photo of the Day: Football kicking simulator
(July 21, 2015) -- Sometimes a stadium might be a bit less daunting than a bunch of cameras. Here, UTSA mechanical engineering student and football kicker Daniel Portillo tests a football kicker simulator first developed at the university in 2013. Since then, professor Yusheng Feng's students have improved it by making it portable.
The simulator predicts the football's trajectory, incorporating factors like drag, lift and the wind. It can also sense the pressure of the kicker's foot and its angle of contact, and capture the kicker's body motion.
Basically, practice can happen pretty much anywhere, whether you have a football field handy or not.
