(July 24, 2015) -- In a room crowded with 25 aspiring entrepreneurs under the age of 30 from various African nations, Mayor Ivy Taylor regaled the group with tales of her growing up in New York City and making her way toward becoming the mayor of San Antonio.

The entrepreneurs are part of the Obama Administration’s Young African Leaders Institute. This summer, they worked under Anita Leffel, senior lecturer in the UTSA Department of Management and director of entrepreneurship programs in the College of Business, to grow their business ideas and make them a reality. Leffel taught them how to pitch their businesses and how to sell their ideas.

This week, the visitors took a tour of San Antonio and along the way, Mayor Taylor proclaimed July 21st Young African Leaders Day in San Antonio. True to their training, the aspiring entrepreneurs traded plenty of business cards as the room cleared.
