Photo of the day: Jupiter's moon, Europa
(July 20, 2015) -- NASA's Galileo Orbiter spacecraft captured this color enhanced view of Jupiter's moon, Europa, in the late 90's. Europa is 1,900 miles wide and its entire surface is covered in ice. The moon orbits Jupiter every 85 hours.
NASA selected nine instruments to be included on a future mission to explore Europa. One of the instruments was designed by a team led by UTSA physics doctoral degree recipient Joseph Westlake. The instrument will help determine the thickness of Europa's ice shell and the depth and salinity of its oceans.
