(Aug. 11, 2015) -- The UTSA community is hard at work readying the university’s campuses for the arrival of students. Thousands of students are expected to arrive for residence hall move-in, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14 and Saturday, Aug. 15.
Move-in day kicks off Roadrunner Days, the official start to the new academic year, which takes place from Friday, Aug. 14 to Saturday, Aug. 22. The first day of classes is Wednesday, Aug. 18.
The UTSA Office of Facilities spent the waning days of the summer focusing on completing final preparations for the fall 2015 semester. They’ve spent countless man-hours waxing floors, washing windows and buildings, renovating spaces and will be on-hand to provide services through Roadrunner Days. When students set foot on the UTSA campuses later this month, they’ll find several improvements and additions made possible by this hard work.
“I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication from the UTSA Office of Facilities team in completing their summer projects in preparation for the fall semester,” said Dave Riker, associate vice president for facilities.
In preparation for the start of residence hall move-in this Friday, the UTSA Office of Residence and Housing Life staff has spent the summer months developing a top-tier residential living experience at each of the university’s three residence facilities: the Carlos and Malú Alvarez Hall, Chaparral Village and Laurel Village. Improvements include new common area furniture and bedroom and kitchen flooring in Chaparral Village, and improved wi-fi service across all facilities.
As of this week, UTSA’s many resident assistants (RAs) have moved in and are also preparing their halls for residents: getting accommodations and schedules in order, decorating their halls and communities, and assisting in move-in day coordination efforts. RAs and other volunteers from a variety of student organizations will be on hand on Aug. 14 to help residents move into their accommodations.
Other UTSA students are also getting in on the preparation fun. Student leaders from registered student organizations and Fraternity and Sorority Life have been meeting regularly throughout the summer to plan for the many events and volunteer efforts that will take place this fall, including “What’s Up Wednesday” and “Fraternity/Sorority Life Mix & Mingle” on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
The Main Campus also has some new and revamped options for hungry students this fall. For more information, visit UTSA Dining.

- Einstein Bros. Bagels in the Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering (BSE) Building has a new look and more seating when it opens this fall.
- Finally, the Market Place, an innovative dining experience featuring made-to-order burgers, fries, salads, wraps and frozen yogurt, will open in the Business Building this fall.
