(Sept. 18, 2015) - - UTSA has signed an agreement with American Honors as part of its ongoing efforts to increase honors-to-honors transfers and lower the overall cost of college completion. The agreement, which makes UTSA the first university in Texas to join the American Honors Transfer Network, adds UTSA to an exclusive network of more than 60 top-tier colleges and universities such as Auburn University, Ohio State University, MIT, Georgia Tech and Louisiana State University.

American Honors is a prestigious honors program offered at community colleges nationwide to prepare students to transfer to top four-year institutions. Program graduates have access to the American Honors Transfer Network, the only national network of 60-plus colleges and universities that provide opportunities for community college honors students to easily transfer credits.

"We're delighted that University of Texas at San Antonio is the first Texas university to join the American Honors network," says David Finegold, chief academic officer of American Honors. "We're particularly pleased to have built a partnership with their honors program so our top honors students at Navarro College and other American Honors colleges can continue their honors education at UTSA."

The agreement provides benefits to both transfer students and UTSA. Students who graduate from the American Honors program with a 2.25 GPA or above will be assured a transfer place at UTSA, and those who have a GPA above a 3.25 will be invited to join the UTSA honors program. The agreement will increase the number of potential honors graduates, as American Honors invites academically motivated students from the U.S. and around the world to its program. UTSA offers extensive scholarship opportunities and financial support to students interested in the honors-to-honors transfer pathway.

"I am excited about the partnership with American Honors because it should bring more talented students into our Honors College and help us expand our services to transfer students," said Ann Eisenberg, interim dean of the UTSA Honors College. "Transfer students are often here so briefly, and recruiting ones who have an honors experience before UTSA eases what can be a double transition – to UTSA and to the Honors College. Since American Honors is a national organization that also recruits internationally, the partnership will help us diversify our student population even further."

American Honors is a two-year honors program offered through the collaboration of DC-based Quad Learning and leading community colleges. The program is offered at colleges across the nation, with Navarro College being the first two-year partner in Texas.
