Longtime UTSA staff member, Gerhard Steinbusch, dies at age 65

(Oct. 2, 2015) -- Gerhard Steinbusch, a Facilities Control Technician II in the UTSA Office of Facilities, died suddenly on September 23, 2015, in San Antonio. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Marie Zaiontz, his sons, sisters, brother and extended family members.

Steinbusch began working at UTSA in October 1998. He was known for his expertise in automation controls and was highly involved in projects that modernized the university’s building automation controls systems. Steinbusch established strong relationships with the university community. Customers often requested him by name to respond to their service requests.

“Gerhard had a great work ethic, and he was the type of person to make sure the job was done right,” said James Jinks, assistant director of utility operations, in the UTSA Office of Facilities. “He was an outstanding employee who will be greatly missed by his UTSA family.”

Born November 25, 1949, in Kaufbeuren, Germany, Gerhard was the son of Peter and Eleonore (Berkmueller) Steinbusch. On July 22, 1983, he married the love of his life, Jeanette Marie Zaiontz. Steinbusch was beloved by his family, friends and colleagues. His co-workers in the Office of Facilities particularly respected him for being a mentor and friend who was always willing to help anyone in need of assistance.
