Alpha Kappa Psi hosts the first ever inter-organizational networking event at UTSA
(April 5, 2016) -- On April 8, Alpha Kappa Psi, UTSA’s largest co-ed business fraternity, will host the Live Your Future Expo (L.Y.F.E.) from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom. The event is meant to increase synergy between student organizations and current business leaders through a day of networking, professional development, workshops and guest speakers.
The event is first come, first serve and registration will close once the attendance capacity is met. It is open to all majors.
L.Y.F.E., co-hosted by the UTSA Student Government Association, the Public Relations Student Society of America, the Global Business Club, Business Student Council, Collegiate Entrepreneurship Organization, and Asociacion de Empresarios Mexicanos is open to all majors at UTSA and beyond.
L.Y.F.E. will feature workshops on resume building, elevator speech mastery, and LinkedIn. In particular, Matt Scherer; CEO of Scherer Communications and also an author on LinkedIn will host the LinkedIn workshop.
The event's keynote speakers are Joe Izbrand, chief communications officer and associate vice president of UTSA Marketing & Communications and Barry Mckinney, director of Student Activities.
The event will conclude with speed networking, where students will be placed on tables with an industry professional on each table. Students will have a few minutes to get to know every other person on the table, including the industry professional. This will be repeated over 10 times so all those in attendance are rewarded with more exposure and more connections.
In addition, there will be 16 professionals from a variety of fortune 500 companies in attendance. Professionals will be representing a variety of industries from mortgage and banking to HR.
Students attending the event will be able see the benefits of joining student organizations and will receive extra credit for management classes taught by professors Bennie Wilson and Sandra Flores.
Furthermore, through interaction with a variety of student organizations students will be able to learn which organization aligns the most with their interests. In addition, attendees leaving the event will have gained a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, and would have also built a stronger network.
