Roadrunner Days mark the start of new school year at UTSA
(August 15, 2016) -- Thousands of Roadrunners will arrive at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) this week for an exciting new year. The 2016-17 school year brings a new crop of top-tier students, including nearly 4,500 freshmen, excited to learn from world-class professors and researchers.
UTSA welcomes nearly 29,000 students August 19-28 for Roadrunner Days, a celebration of the new school year. Events and activities held during Roadrunner Days provide the university community with an opportunity to welcome new students, celebrate UTSA's accomplishments and participate in time-honored traditions.
The Class of 2020 will descend on UTSA on Friday, August 19 during Residence Hall move-in day. Students and their families will arrive on Main Campus, carrying boxes of personal items and move-in musts as they turn their residence hall into their new home. Move-in will continue through Saturday, August 20.
After a week of countless campus activities to help the new 'Runners get acclimated to the UTSA life, freshman and transfer students will attend Convocation on Monday, August 22. The annual ceremony kick-starts the new academic year and marks the first step the Roadrunners will take in their higher education journey of discovery. Students will hear from President Ricardo Romo as well as student and campus leaders. They will also become immersed in new Roadrunner traditions when they learn the UTSA Fight Song, Roadrunner Creed and Alma Mater.
New students will also experience PlayFair on August 22 at the Recreation Wellness Center. The popular entertaining event is the perfect way to develop new campus friendships. It also offers team-building exercises to help new Roadrunners bond.
Before students head off to bed before the first day of class, they won't want to miss Midnight Light, Monday, August 22 at 11:30 p.m. Join President Romo, Rowdy, The Spirit of San Antonio Marching Band (SOSA), fellow students, faculty and staff as UTSA lights the Monument at the Main Campus entrance at the stroke of midnight to mark the start of a new academic year.
Students also won't want to miss the President's BBQ on the Lawn Tuesday, August 23 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Hang out with President Romo while enjoying live music and a free BBQ dinner. He hosts the President's BBQ on the Plaza at the Downtown Campus Wednesday, August 24 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Stop by our Denim Day display to take a photo in front of our Denim Wall, spin the "Is It Consent?" Wheel, and get a Concha or goodie.
