Midnight Light brightens up the night before classes
( Aug. 22, 2016) — Midnight Light is one of the newest and prettiest Roadrunner Days traditions at UTSA. It’s a vivid extravaganza of light, music and colors painting the Main Campus blue, white and orange during the midnight hours before the first day of classes.
On Monday, Aug. 22 at 11:30 p.m., the UTSA community can come out to watch UTSA President Ricardo Romo press the button to shine UTSA colors on the UTSA Monuments at the John Peace Blvd. entrance to the Main Campus. The midnight celebration will feature university leaders, student leaders, the Rowdy Crew, the UTSA Spirit of San Antonio marching band and Rowdy. There will also be a brilliant fireworks display.
The UTSA Monuments are an award-winning architectural element unique to the university. They are meant to welcome everyone to the UTSA Main Campus. They also highlight UTSA’s presence in the community and shows that UTSA’s spirit burns brightly.
A committee of UTSA student leaders from the Student Government Association, Rowdy Crew and the Honors Alliance spearheaded the effort with university staff to create distinct color combinations to reflect special moments in the life of UTSA. On standard evenings, the Monuments glow a soft white with blue and orange undertones.
