UTSA partners with American Corporate Partners to offer mentorships for student veterans
(Sept. 12, 2016) — UTSA has partnered with American Corporate Partners (ACP), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping veterans make the transition from the armed services to the civilian workforce, to offer professional mentorship opportunities for post-9/11 student veterans. Twenty-five slots in the ACP Mentoring program are reserved for students referred by UTSA who are interested in enhancing their career development. The registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 30.
ACP offers year-long, personalized mentorships with a corporate professional in a career field of your interest. Its mentors come from one of its 50 participating institutions including The University of Texas System, AT&T, Boeing, EFH, Johnson & Johnson, Oxy and Wells Fargo.
"I’m sure many mentors would agree with me that it’s an honor to assist and learn from the protégés paired with us. [Mine] was no exception," said Hanns-Christian, ACP mentor. "I’ve learned a great deal, and I have been inspired by his exceptionally strong work ethic and humility."
According to ACP statistics, 95 percent of veterans who participate in the ACP program recommend its services to fellow veterans.
Navy veteran and UTSA geology major Kevin Peterson participated in the program and, with guidance from his mentor, gained greater confidence and discovered more career options in his field.
“My experience with the ACP Mentorship Program has been very helpful and informative,” Peterson shared. “My mentor, Russ Cooper of Occidental Petroleum Corporation, has brought to my attention a world of potential professional careers in geo-sciences. Through this mentorship program I have grown to be more confident in my own skill set and my ability to find employment in my field of interest.”
