UTSA Graduate School expands to provide a space for professional development and networking
(November 28, 2016) -- As The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Graduate School continues to grow, it is unveiling a multipurpose space on the Main Campus where students and alumni can network, utilize advising services and prepare for their future careers.
The new UTSA Graduate Student Professional Development Center inside the Graduate School and Research Building has state of the art technology and study areas for students to collaborate.
“I plan to practice my presentations and connect with other graduate students, which could potentially lead to collaborative research projects,” said Jesus Romo, a doctoral candidate in the UTSA cell and molecular biology program.
The new space for collaboration, engagement and networking has been in the works at UTSA since the fall of 2015.
Thesis and dissertation writing camps, research grant proposal seminars, international graduate student development sessions and future faculty training will all be offered at the center.
“A sense of community for graduate students is paramount at Tier One institutions. As a model beyond the classroom, we offer comprehensive Tier One support services to our students in the center,” said DeBrenna Agbenyiga, Vice Provost and Dean of the UTSA Graduate School. “This includes preparation for life, work and real life skills that can be used beyond UTSA.”
UTSA graduate students can also take advantage of the university’s Academic Research Career (A.R.C) Development multi-track program, which allows them to learn job placement and research tips. In addition to mentorship opportunities, there will be social events at the center to bring graduate students together.
The UTSA Graduate School currently offers 117 doctoral, master's and certificate programs. More than 4,100 graduate students are enrolled across seven academic colleges including the College of Architecture, Construction & Planning; Business; Education & Human Development; Engineering; Liberal & Fine Arts; Public Policy and Sciences.
The UTSA Graduate Student Professional Development Center will host a grand opening on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 3 p.m. inside the UTSA Graduate School & Research building, Suite 1.204 on the Main Campus.
UTSA is ranked among the top 400 universities in the world and among the top 100 in the nation, according to Times Higher Education.
