UTSA honors America’s veterans with events on all three campuses Nov. 9-11

(Nov. 7, 2016) -- UTSA celebrates Veterans Day by honoring active military members and veterans with public events, Wednesday, Nov. 9 to Friday, Nov. 11. UTSA has again partnered with the San Antonio Chamber’s Celebrate America’s Military, an annual two-week tribute to the U.S. military.

Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. In 1954, President Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans Day.

UTSA is a proud supporter of U.S. Armed Forces Veterans, and has been recognized as a Military Friendly School. More than 2,800 student veterans pursue their academic goals at UTSA. The Office of the Registrar serves and interacts with veterans in several ways, including the Veterans Certification Office, the Veterans Success on Campus Program, the Veteran Services Advisory Committee and the Student Veterans Association.
