Meet the team representing UTSA in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl
(December 13, 2016) – UTSA Football is going bowling -- in New Mexico.
The 2016 Roadrunner Football team is the first in the program's history to earn a bowl bid. Led by first-year head coach Frank Wilson, 113 players make up this season's team. They come from every corner of Texas and as far away as California.
The offensive leader comes from a small town south of San Antonio. Junior quarterback Dalton Sturm said that while growing up in Goliad, Texas, he dreamt of playing Division I football at a university of excellence. His dreams are coming true at UTSA.
"I go into each game as if it's the biggest game of the season," Sturm said. "It's about all of us winning together as a team."
The team travels to Albuquerque this week on a journey that the Roadrunners haven't yet taken. UTSA will compete against the New Mexico Lobos at noon (MT) on Saturday, Dec. 17, in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl at University Stadium.

Seven UTSA players, led by first-team selection Josiah Tauaefa and second-teamers Marcus Davenport and Michael Egwuagu, earned All-Conference USA (C-USA) accolades in a vote of the league's 13 head coaches. Four other Roadrunners are slated to be recognized, including Matt Bayliss, Jevonte Domond, Jordan Moore and Josh Stewart.
Tauaefa also was named C-USA Freshman of the Year, becoming the first Roadrunner in program history to ever earn the league's prestigious postseason individual award. The redshirt freshman linebacker also is the first player to earn first-team C-USA accolades in UTSA's four years in the league, and the second player to earn a spot on a league's top team overall.
The 2016 UTSA football team is led by 10 top-tier coaches, including head coach Frank Wilson, who joined UTSA with two decades of coaching experience.
