UTSA and Brooks Air Force Base to Partner The collaboration is also designed to encourage San Antonio's small-business development primarily in the biotechnology/bioengineering and information technology arenas. "When I became president of UTSA two years ago, I made a commitment that UTSA would become a university of first choice," Romo told the audience of some 100 representatives of the academic, military, civic and business communities. "That goal has now grown to one of elevating UTSA to the status of a top-tier research institution. Partnerships such as the one we formalize today with Brooks are essential in that attainment," Romo said. Through the agreement, Brooks Human Systems Wing will merge resources with UTSA's colleges of business, sciences and engineering to create joint teaching and research opportunities for faculty and base scientists. UTSA's graduate students will also have access to Brooks' state-of-the-art research facilities. Brooks and the UTSA Institute for Economic Development will also co-sponsor efforts to enhance economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs, particularly small businesses and those owned by women and minorities. Bexar County Judge and UT Board of Regents nominee Cyndi Taylor Krier also spoke at the ceremonies, calling the UTSA/Brooks teaming a perfectly logical blend of two outstanding resources. Send
