Leadership, Management Programs To Be Held at Downtown Campus
(Aug. 1, 2001) The UTSA Bridging Our Communities Program will hold its fourth annual Summer Institute for Leadership and Stewardship at the Downtown Campus August 15-17, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Designed for staff members and volunteers of nonprofit organizations who want to improve management and leadership skills, the Institute is the first component of a unique certification program offered by UTSA. A program funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Bridging Our Communities is under the administrative umbrella of the UTSA Center for the Study of Women and Gender.
"We have a program that many people may not be aware of. This is a solid offering to the community that is responding to the needs of the nonprofit sector," said Program Coordinator Dennis Tynan. "We have many skilled and dynamic speakers lined up for the classes."
Topics at the Summer Institute will include: importance of a mission, collaboration and consensus, trends in philanthropy, communicating as a leader, fusion leadership, diversity and multiculturalism, embracing change and running a nonprofit like a business.
An additional series, the Nonprofit Management Program (NMP) is also open for registration. Participants in the NMP will meet at the Downtown Campus for a total of fifteen sessions. Sessions will be held on the first and third Mondays of each month, September 17, 2001-April 15, 2002, 6-9 p.m.
