UTSA Offers Chemical Dependency Counselor Training

(Aug. 2, 2001) The University of Texas at San Antonio is offering a 20-week training program for chemical dependency counselors.

Open to all who have earned a high school diploma or GED equivalency, the program prepares participants to enter the chemical dependency treatment career field and also enhances the skills of practicing counselors.

The program comprises 10 training units of 30 classroom hours each. Three continuing education units (CEUs) will be credited to participants for each unit completed by the UTSA College of Urban and Professional Programs (which undergoes a name change, effective Sept. 1, to the College of Public Policy).

Classes will meet at the UTSA Downtown Campus 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays, beginning Sept. 8. Cost of the program is $300 per unit.

  3. Introduction to Counseling Theories

  7. Group Counseling
  8. AA/12 Steps/12 Principles
  9. Intake, Assessment and Diagnosis in Chemical Dependency Treatment
  10. Treatment Planning, Reports and Record-Keeping in Chemical Dependency Treatment
