UTSA Offers Grants to Prospective Bilingual Education Teachers

(August 1, 2001) The UTSA Division of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies is offering teacher-training grants to students who are preparing to become bilingual education teachers.

The grants are intended to reduce a shortage of qualified bilingual education teachers in the San Antonio area. Up to 50 grants will be competitively awarded.

Recipients will learn through a combination of performing fieldwork in area schools, mentoring and attending cultural and professional events.

Undergraduate applicants must already be admitted as full-time students at UTSA for the fall 2001 semester and must have successfully completed a minimum of 60 semester credit hours of course work in the area of interdisciplinary studies with a specialization in bilingual education. A minimum GPA of 2.50 is also required.

Certified teachers seeking a master of arts degree in bilingual education must submit an application for graduate study. The deadline to submit all applications is Aug. 10. For applications or more information, call (210) 458-4426.
