Disability Awareness Week Begins Monday

UTSA will host Disability Awareness Week Feb. 26-March 2 on UTSA's campuses. The week-long event will include a wheelchair rugby match, concert by a UTSA student and receptions honoring both student note-takers and faculty for their service to students with disabilities.

Twelve faculty members will be recognized for their outstanding service to students with disabilities. They are Antonio Calabria, behavioral and cultural sciences; Howard Smith, bicultural-bilingual studies; Alan Bailey, economics and finance; Judith Looper, education; Lars Hansen and Xiaodu Wang, engineering; William Samuelson, foreign languages; Sharleen Pisciotta, English, classics, philosophy and communication; Deeman Schirf and Esther Wheeler, life sciences; Hing-Sing Yu, mathematics education; and Stephen Russell, social and policy sciences.

The group will be honored during a reception at 3 p.m. March 1 in the university's Disability Services office, located in Multidisciplinary Studies Building Room 2.03.18.

UTSA students will compete against the nationally ranked San Antonio Rough Riders quadriplegic rugby team.
