ITC Photography Exhibit Showcases Early San Antonio Although the Corn Hill, Tex., native apprenticed as a pharmacist, he supported his family as a photographer in the 1920s and 30s. His commissioned images of San Antonio, taken from 1928 until his death in 1937, chronicle the city's building boom and architectural style from that era. Included are historic snaps of the Medical Arts Building, Smith-Young Tower, Milam Building and Municipal Auditorium. Following his death, Masterson's wife and partner, Nellie, preserved a portion of her husband's negatives and portfolio. The collection, discovered more than 40 years after Masterson's death, is being presented to the public for the first time. The Mastersons' granddaughter, Martha Bradley, inherited the collection and is curating the exhibit, which is displayed in the ITC's Lower Gallery. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
