Library Debuts New User-Friendly Online Catalog The catalog, called UCAT, has been upgraded to a Web-interface system that will allow the user to search using standard Web-browser features such as hyperlinks, pull-down menus and fill-in-the-blank search forms. The new system will offer seamless access to images, full text and other local and remote sources. Users will be able to do a new title search specifically on journals and other periodicals, for example. Circulation records can also be accessed so users can see whats been checked out or is on hold or recall. Assistant Director for Library Systems Sue Tyner said, "We expect to continue to fine-tune the interface for some time, so users will continue to see some occasional formatting changes and new features." Future upgrades include the ability to renew books online from any Internet workstation and a course-reserve search component that allows students to look up items by professor or course. The new UCAT can be accessed online or through the librarys home page. The library is also offering brief introductions to UCAT for users.
