UTSA Celebrates the Start of the Academic Year Tuesday While the new year for most began after the ball dropped in New York City, UTSA will celebrate the start of the academic new year Tuesday, Jan. 16 with the first day of spring classes. Instead of donning party hats and carrying noisemakers, UTSA's new year is characterized by students looking for classes and hoisting backpacks. "I'm eager to see what the new year will bring for UTSA," said UTSA President Ricardo Romo. "UTSA fared well in 2000 with the awarding of $83.8 million in PUF funding for new buildings and several new degree programs. I hope to build on those successes as UTSA strives to become a premier research university." Romo also encourages faculty and staff to assist students who might need help in the coming week. Send
