Brother of Basketball Coaching Staff Member Perishes in OSU Crash President Ricardo Romo leads the Tri-Campus community in expressing condolences to UTSA Assistant Basketball Coach Brett Weiberg on the death of his brother, Jared, who perished in a plane crash Saturday outside of Denver along with six other players and staff members of the Oklahoma State University Cowboys basketball team. Jared was a student manager for the team, which also lost two players in the tragedy. He was also the nephew of Big 12 Conference Commissioner Kevin Weiberg. "Our deepest sympathies go out to Brett and his family, as well as to the loved ones and colleagues of the others who were lost in this sad, untimely way as they traveled to represent their university," said Romo. "There are many ties between OSU and UTSA, and we all share this loss," he said. Both UTSA men's Head Basketball Coach Tim Carter and women's Head Basketball Coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair were members of the OSU coaching staff before coming to San Antonio. Also among the victims was Will Hancock, coordinator of media relations for the team, whose father, Bill, is the vice president for NCAA men's basketball championships. "This is another loss that we at UTSA feel so personally because of how well we have gotten to know Bill in his many trips to San Antonio related to the NCAA championship games that UTSA has hosted here," said UTSA Athletic Director Lynn Hickey. "It reminds us of just how small a world it is we live in," added Hickey, whose nephew played basketball with Jared Weiberg in Oklahoma. "It hits very close to home." Send
